Third Grade is an exciting year filled with many opportunities and adventures. This room is always alive with animated discussions, laughter and interactive activities. Curriculum and instruction rise to a new level, allowing students to reach different heights in individual skills as well as academic collaboration. Developing and building a working pinball machine combines math concepts with engineering skills. Researching and producing a research paper on the breed of chicken they are hatching in class is not only a favorite project full of anticipation and predictions but also pulls in life sciences, writing skills combined with fun, hands on experience.
Habitats, biology and ecosystems are areas of science studies in this grade. Our annual trip to the Monterey Bay Aquarium is the perfect opportunity to bring students face to face with habitats different from those in our own landscapes. This trip is also a great way to expand learning of Native American studies as we visit nearby missions.
Working with others, learning perseverance and leading by example are key concepts, within our Character Education program and are specifically impactful in Third Grade. Emerging social awareness and relationships are fostered at Brighton. Giving students tools to work through conflict or misunderstandings, expanding their social circle or learning how to set the strong example develops students into the best version of themselves.
Weekly Specials classes in Art, Music, Physical Education and Spanish inspire students beyond the typical curriculum of school. Students find their creative voice and inner performer through fine arts instructions. Physical Education and Spanish provide valuable skills that last a lifetime.
